On the shores of Otway sound, in an area where forests reach the sea, “Rancho Sutivan” lies, a real Patagonian farm, where you can enjoy the farming activities of Magellan, encountering the nature, in an environment of unparalleled beauty, tranquility and exclusivity.

“Rancho Sutivan” is a livestock farm located in Riesco Island (which is the fourth largest island in Chile), 68 km from Verde River and 158 km from Punta Arenas, ranging from the southern end of Toro Creek to the foothills of FraileMount, at the height of Riesco Lake, and the mouth of ChorrilloIndian; limiting with the Otway Sound in the south.

Within its boundaries and geographical conditions; with characteristics of foothills; with immediate access to river basins, mountain ranges, rugged mountains, impenetrable forests and plains rarely visited by man in the south west of theRiesco Island; all these make the property an ideal habitat for wild animals.

BagualesUnbroken animalsare the animals that have become wild avoiding human presence. There may be animals that have had a domestic origin and for any event have been released or animals bred in the wild, untamed animals, free in the vast territory, yet to be discover its lush pristine nature, have no limits, no boundaries for them , no howling in thrown into the sea, jumping or diving man or wires if necessary.

Strong, brave and elusive to catch,a great skill is required to the“bagualero” (the one who catches the animals), who accompanied by his or her faithful dogs, horses and loops, does not hesitate to carry out his or her task, a hand-to-hand fight , splashed with mud and with the breath of the beast raging on his or her face.

Day 1: Departure from Punta Arenas at 8.30 hrs.and after a journey of 156 km, we arrive at SUTIVAN RANCH, located in the municipality of Rio Verde, where there will be warmly welcomed with an aperitif, cocktail and welcome homemade lunch. After this delicious country lunch, we will settle down and we will be free for a couple of hours to get over jet lag. In the afternoon, we will review the information for central area of the farm, its operation, its infrastructure and history as one of the first sawmills in the Chilean Patagonia; we will also get to know and learn the basics of saddle horses, we will adapt the saddles to our requirements of next day to begin our extreme adventure. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: At 7.00 am, breakfast will be ready with a good coffee, milk, homemade bread, ham, cheese, homemade jams, free-range eggs, which will give us enough energy to start the great ride, full of adventures in the shores of Otway Sound, hills, climbs and descents, river crossings, about 6 hours till reaching the “Picada del Diablo,” with a high degree of difficulty, always attentive, listening to the sounds, watching in the middle of pristine nature and evergreen forests in order to sight any “bagual”.At Toro Bay, we will rest our horses, we will release the straps, take water, while we enjoy our lunch box and put up our camp where we stay overnight in the style of “bagualeros”.

Some grilled meats, a few matés, anecdotes and stories in our improvised camp; we will begin our search by looking at the ground and listening to any noise or roar to find our prey, an activity that requires patience; it is not easy, but we are always aware.

Day 3: After a rural breakfast, coffee, cakes and buns, we will continue the search, to achieve our goal, it would undertake the return, and otherwise we will come back around 14 hrs.

ImagenBack in the evening, we will enjoy a replenishing and plentiful homemade food, served with a glass of wine, a good coffee and a digestif. After this exhausting day, nothing beats a good hot bath outdoors, a good mate talked about watching the sky by the sea.

Day 4: Nothing beats a good breakfast, which will be provided from 7 am. To 9.30, for those who want to rest from the great adventure, in order to, later on, start a typical preparation of roast lamb, the style of the Patagonian farms, accompanied with a glass of wine, “pebreand sopaipillas” or cakes, as it is said in the coutryside, salads and homemade dessert.

Once enjoyed the roast, at 17 hrs. We will embark on the journey back to Punta Arenas.

This program includes relaxation baths of hot water, outdoors, in cypress.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS: knowing horseback riding experience is necessary, bring warm clothing, waterproof, good shoes, camera, sunscreen, accident insurance.
